Tony Tascona (1926-2006), a pioneering Canadian artist, was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba. After graduating from the Winnipeg School of Art in 1950, Tascona worked in the aerospace industry, where he developed a fascination with industrial materials such as plastics and metals. This influence became a hallmark of his art, which evolved from expressionistic glazes to geometric, hard-edge compositions on aluminum.

His works, defined by bold colours and innovative techniques, reflect his exploration of form and space. A trustee for the National Gallery of Canada (1997-1999), Tascona left an indelible mark on Canadian art, inspiring future generations with his visionary approach and dedication to pushing the boundaries of his craft.
